The KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg (KFA) is an association which has devoted itself to promoting and improving the public awareness of short films. It operates a theatrical distribution service for short film, negotiates worldwide licensing rights, maintains a short film database linked to an extensive video archive, sets up training and education courses and organizes film-related projects with national and international co-partners. Every year the Agency also hosts and runs the Hamburg International Short Film Festival. Moreover it gets involved in the political arena through its lobby work for creators and users of short film. Theatrical Distribution

The KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg has been operating a distribution service for supporting films and short film reels for cinemas in German speaking countries since 1994. After the establishment of the distribution arm, the large number of inquiries from cinema operators - especially from the arthouse and independent sector - relating to the need for specifically designed distribution infrastructure to facilitate the screening of high-quality short films as supporting films or compilation reels had to be taken into account. Today the Agency has more than 500 cinemas which can be considered as regular customers. By the end of 2008, short films had received more than 200,000 screenings, with a total audience of more than eight million. [more]

The KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg manages the worldwide rights of a steadily expanding catalogue of outstanding short films of all genres and lengths. The programme includes more than 170 German and international short film titles. Hamburg International Short Film Festival

The Hamburg International Short Film Festival has its roots in the independent filmmaking scene. The Festival first took place in 1985 under the title NoBudget, a name which clearly defined the Festival’s mission. In 1994 it received its current name. Since it was founded, it has always been the Festival’s aim to rise to the challenge presented by new developments and changing parameters in technology, society, and aesthetics. [more]

The Short Film School

The Short Film School is a project of the KurzFilmAgentur and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media in Hamburg. The idea is to promote film education in schools in so far as filmmakers from Hamburg offer students the chance to gain hands-on experience in the art of filmmaking. Here, the KurzFilmAgentur acts as an intermediary between the artists and the students and teachers.  [more]

Short Film Archive

Since its inception the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg has been maintaining an online database that currently holds over 25,000 titles. Every year approximately 2000 new titles are added to this ever-expanding short-film resource. The video archive also carries an extensive range of titles in digital and analogue formats available for viewing. All of these titles can be accessed in the short film database. The Agency's archive concentrates on work from the last twenty years, but also maintains a significant collection of older titles and works of historical interest. [more]

Short Film Shop

The Short Film Shop offers for non-commercial use DVDs from the 'KFA-Edition' series as well as more than 150 short film-DVDs from our worldwide partners, making it the most varied Internet portal of its kind. With the DVD download option the user can download selected films from the distribution programme of the KurzFilmAgentur (including many festival prizewinners) at competitive prices. Furthermore a cover and a label with the original artwork can be printed out with every DVD download.  [more]
